  • Yield: 8 servings

Description

This Ultimate Green Bean Casserole is a warm hug on a plate, combining the earthy crunch of fresh green beans with creamy mushroom goodness and a crispy topping. Perfect for festive gatherings or cozy family dinners, it’s a dish everyone will cherish.

Ingredients

  • Fresh or frozen green beans
  • Cream of mushroom soup
  • Onion
  • Milk
  • French fried onions
  • Cheese (cheddar or Parmesan optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. If using fresh green beans, blanch them in boiling water for about 4 minutes until bright green and crisp-tender. Drain and set aside. If using frozen, simply set them aside.
  3. In a large skillet, add a tablespoon of oil or butter over medium heat. Add diced onions and sauté until translucent and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sautéed onions, cream of mushroom soup, milk, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir until well combined.
  5. Gently fold in the green beans until well coated with the creamy mixture.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  7. Top the casserole with a generous layer of French fried onions. If using cheese, sprinkle it on top as well.
  8. Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top.
  9. Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
