Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large loaf of Italian bread or sourdough bread
- 2 cups cooked spaghetti
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 cup marinara sauce (for serving)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut off the top of the large loaf of Italian or sourdough bread to create a lid. Set the lid aside.
- Hollow out the inside of the bread, leaving about an inch of bread on the sides and bottom to create a sturdy bowl.
- Place the hollowed-out bread bowls on a baking sheet.
- If not already cooked, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- If desired, add red pepper flakes and stir for another 30 seconds.
- Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet, tossing it in the garlic oil. Season with salt and black pepper, mixing well.
- Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley.
- Spoon the garlic spaghetti mixture into each hollowed-out bread bowl, packing it gently.
- If using, sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top of each filled bread bowl.
- Place the tops of the bread back on each bowl.
- Transfer the baking sheet with the filled bread bowls into the preheated oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted.
- Keep an eye on them to avoid over-browning.
- While the bread bowls cool, heat the marinara sauce in a small saucepan over low heat.
- Serve each garlic bread bowl on a plate, with the option to leave the tops on or remove them.
- Serve warm marinara sauce on the side for dipping, and drizzle with extra olive oil and sprinkle with parsley for added flavor.
- Enjoy with friends and family!
