Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large loaf of Italian bread or sourdough bread
  • 2 cups cooked spaghetti
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 cup marinara sauce (for serving)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cut off the top of the large loaf of Italian or sourdough bread to create a lid. Set the lid aside.
  3. Hollow out the inside of the bread, leaving about an inch of bread on the sides and bottom to create a sturdy bowl.
  4. Place the hollowed-out bread bowls on a baking sheet.
  5. If not already cooked, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  6. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  7. If desired, add red pepper flakes and stir for another 30 seconds.
  8. Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet, tossing it in the garlic oil. Season with salt and black pepper, mixing well.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley.
  10. Spoon the garlic spaghetti mixture into each hollowed-out bread bowl, packing it gently.
  11. If using, sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top of each filled bread bowl.
  12. Place the tops of the bread back on each bowl.
  13. Transfer the baking sheet with the filled bread bowls into the preheated oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted.
  14. Keep an eye on them to avoid over-browning.
  15. While the bread bowls cool, heat the marinara sauce in a small saucepan over low heat.
  16. Serve each garlic bread bowl on a plate, with the option to leave the tops on or remove them.
  17. Serve warm marinara sauce on the side for dipping, and drizzle with extra olive oil and sprinkle with parsley for added flavor.
  18. Enjoy with friends and family!
