Ingredients
Scale
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 8 slices of bacon, chopped
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 can (15 oz) ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Boil a large pot of salted water. Add lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente (8-10 minutes). Drain and lay flat on a clean kitchen towel or parchment paper.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until crispy (5-7 minutes). Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving grease in the skillet.
- Add diced onion to the skillet and cook until translucent (3-4 minutes).
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Add ground beef and ground pork, seasoning with salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Cook until browned (8-10 minutes), breaking up the meat as it cooks.
- Drain excess fat, stir in marinara sauce, and let simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and mix in crispy bacon.
- In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, half of the grated Parmesan, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, slightly overlapping.
- Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the meat sauce and a layer of mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat with another 3 noodles, remaining ricotta mixture, another third of meat sauce, and another layer of mozzarella.
- For the final layer, place the last 3 noodles on top, spread remaining meat sauce, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Cover with aluminum foil, ensuring it doesn’t touch the cheese. Bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let sit for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
- Slice into squares and serve garnished with freshly chopped parsley.
Notes
- Allowing the lasagna to rest before slicing helps the layers set, making it easier to serve.
- Feel free to customize the meat or add vegetables for a personal touch.
