Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (or your choice of protein)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the ground beef. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks.
  2. Cook the beef for about 5-7 minutes, or until it’s browned and no longer pink. Make sure to stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  3. Once the beef is cooked, drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  4. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
  5. Sprinkle in the smoked paprika, onion powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine the spices with the meat.
  6. In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat for about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Once the butter is melted, add the honey and BBQ sauce to the pan. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  8. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  9. Pour the garlic butter honey BBQ sauce over the cooked beef mixture in the skillet. Stir well to coat the meat evenly with the sauce.
  10. Let the mixture cook together for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  11. While the beef is simmering with the sauce, prepare the tortillas by warming them in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side or wrapping them in foil and placing them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
  12. If you prefer crispy tacos, fry the tortillas in a bit of oil until they are golden brown and crispy, then drain them on paper towels.
  13. Once the tortillas are warmed, assemble the tacos by placing a generous scoop of the garlic butter honey BBQ beef mixture in the center of each tortilla.
  14. Top the beef with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese.
  15. Add a dollop of sour cream on top of the cheese for extra creaminess, if desired.
  16. Sprinkle some chopped cilantro over the top of each taco for a fresh touch.
  17. Serve the tacos immediately while they are warm, either on a large platter or individually.
  18. Consider pairing the tacos with sides like Mexican rice, refried beans, or a fresh corn salad.
  19. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, keeping the tortillas stored separately.
  20. To reheat, warm the beef mixture in a skillet over medium heat until heated through, and warm the tortillas as needed.

Notes

  • If you have any leftovers, store the beef mixture in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The tortillas can be stored separately to maintain their texture.
  • To reheat, warm the beef mixture in a skillet over medium heat until heated through, and warm the tortillas as needed.
