Description

Crispy Fried Mushrooms are a delicious and crunchy appetizer, featuring fresh mushrooms coated in a seasoned breading and fried until golden. Perfect for dipping, these bite-sized treats are sure to be a hit at any gathering!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh mushrooms (button or cremini)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Clean the mushrooms using a damp paper towel to wipe off any dirt. Avoid rinsing under water to prevent sogginess. If needed, rinse quickly and dry thoroughly.
  2. Remove tough stems from the mushrooms. Leave button mushrooms whole; slice larger cremini mushrooms in half or quarters for even cooking.
  3. Set up three shallow bowls: In the first bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  4. In the second bowl, whisk the two large eggs until well combined.
  5. In the third bowl, add the breadcrumbs.
  6. Dip each cleaned mushroom into the flour mixture, coating evenly and shaking off excess.
  7. Next, dip the floured mushroom into the egg mixture, letting excess egg drip off.
  8. Finally, roll the mushroom in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure they stick. Place on a plate and repeat with remaining mushrooms.
  9. In a large skillet, pour enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom by about 1/4 inch. Heat over medium-high heat.
  10. Test the oil by dropping in a small piece of bread; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
  11. Carefully add breaded mushrooms in batches, frying 6-8 at a time for 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown.
  12. Flip and fry for another 2-3 minutes until crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  13. Sprinkle with extra salt while hot for enhanced flavor.
  14. Arrange on a platter, garnish with chopped parsley, and serve with lemon wedges for a zesty kick. Pair with dipping sauces like ranch, marinara, or spicy aioli.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider marinating the mushrooms in olive oil, garlic, and herbs for 30 minutes before breading.
  • Ensure not to overcrowd the pan while frying to maintain the oil temperature and achieve crispiness.
