Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • Red Gel Food Coloring
  • Green Gel Food Coloring
  • Powdered Sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Set this mixture aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1/2 cup of unsalted butter (softened), 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup of brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in 2 large eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated. Then, add your red food coloring until you reach your desired shade. Mix thoroughly.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
  6. Once combined, divide the dough into two portions. To one half, add green food coloring and mix until the dough is evenly colored.
  7. Cover both portions of dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  8. After chilling, scoop tablespoon-sized portions of the red and green dough. Roll them into balls and then roll each ball in powdered sugar until fully coated.
  9. Place the coated dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
