  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 20-30 pieces 1x

Description

Crispy Wonton Mozzarella Sticks are a deliciously unique appetizer featuring gooey mozzarella cheese wrapped in wonton wrappers and fried until golden. Perfect for snacking or entertaining, these cheesy bites are best enjoyed with marinara sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of wonton wrappers (about 2030 wrappers)
  • 16 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks (about 1/2 inch thick)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Lay out your wonton wrappers on a clean, flat surface, ensuring they are not overlapping.
  2. Place a mozzarella stick diagonally in the center of a wonton wrapper.
  3. In a small bowl, beat one of the eggs to use as an adhesive.
  4. Brush the edges of the wonton wrapper with the beaten egg.
  5. Fold the bottom corner over the cheese stick, fold the sides in, and roll it up tightly from the bottom to the top. Press the edges to seal. Repeat until all cheese sticks are wrapped.
  6. In one shallow dish, add the flour and season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  7. In a second shallow dish, crack the remaining egg and beat until well combined.
  8. In a third shallow dish, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and additional salt and pepper. Mix well.
  9. Dip each wrapped mozzarella stick into the flour, coating evenly and shaking off excess.
  10. Dip the floured wonton into the beaten egg, ensuring full coverage.
  11. Roll the wonton in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat for all wrapped sticks.
  12. In a large skillet or pot, heat enough vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  13. Carefully add a few wonton sticks to the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding.
  14. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy, using a slotted spoon to turn gently.
  15. Remove from oil and place on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Continue frying remaining sticks.
  16. Arrange fried wonton mozzarella sticks on a serving platter. Garnish with fresh parsley or basil if desired.
  17. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra crunch, use panko breadcrumbs.
  • Ensure the oil temperature is consistent for even frying.
  • You can experiment with different cheeses or seasonings for variety.
