Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (9 oz) refrigerated cheese tortellini
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Marinara sauce for dipping (optional)
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the refrigerated cheese tortellini and cook according to package instructions (about 3-5 minutes) until they float to the top and are tender.
- Drain the tortellini in a colander and let them cool for a few minutes.
- Set up three shallow bowls or plates.
- In the first bowl, add all-purpose flour and season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- In the second bowl, crack the eggs and whisk until well combined.
- In the third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and additional salt and pepper. Mix well.
- Take a cooled tortellini and dip it into the flour, coating evenly and shaking off excess.
- Dip the floured tortellini into the egg mixture, ensuring full coverage.
- Roll the tortellini in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Place on a baking sheet or plate. Repeat with remaining tortellini.
- In a large skillet, pour enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom by about 1/4 inch. Heat over medium-high heat.
- Test the oil by dropping in a small piece of bread; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
- Carefully add a few breaded tortellini to the pan, avoiding overcrowding. Fry in batches if necessary.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to flip gently.
- Remove from oil and place on a plate lined with paper towels. Sprinkle with extra salt while hot.
- Arrange the crispy tortellini on a serving platter.
- Serve with marinara sauce for dipping, if desired.
- Enjoy as an appetizer, snack, or fun main dish!
Notes
- Ensure the oil is hot enough to prevent greasy tortellini.
- For added spice, mix red pepper flakes into the breadcrumb mixture.
- For a healthier option, bake the breaded tortellini at 400°F (200°C) for about 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
