  • Yield: 12-16 breadsticks 1x

Description

These cheesy breadsticks are soft, flavorful, and perfect for dipping! Made with a simple dough and filled with a delicious blend of mozzarella and Parmesan, they are sure to be a hit at any gathering. Serve them warm with marinara sauce for a delightful treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Whisk together to ensure even distribution.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the warm water and olive oil. Test the temperature to ensure it is comfortably warm.
  3. Pour the warm water mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough in the bowl for about 2-3 minutes until it becomes soft and elastic. Add more flour if too sticky.
  5. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  6. While the dough rises, prepare the cheese mixture by combining mozzarella, Parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, and red pepper flakes in a medium bowl.
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  8. Cut the dough into strips about 1 inch wide. Stretch and twist each strip gently.
  9. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  10. Place the twisted dough strips on the baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  11. Generously sprinkle the cheese mixture over each breadstick.
  12. Brush the tops with melted butter for added flavor and color.
  13. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
  14. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
  15. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Ensure the water is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • Feel free to customize the cheese mixture with your favorite herbs or spices.
  • These breadsticks are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
