Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound of brisket, cooked and shredded
  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 4 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil (about 1 tablespoon of salt).
  2. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente (7-8 minutes). Stir occasionally.
  3. Drain the macaroni in a colander and rinse briefly with cold water to stop the cooking process.
  4. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  5. Add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes to create a roux.
  6. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Cook until thickened (5-7 minutes).
  7. Reduce heat to low and stir in the cream cheese until melted.
  8. Add the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese, stirring until smooth. Reserve some cheese for topping if desired.
  9. Stir in Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  10. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni and shredded brisket.
  11. Pour the cheese sauce over the mixture and gently fold until evenly coated.
  12. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large baking dish.
  13. Transfer the mac and cheese mixture to the baking dish, spreading it evenly. Top with reserved cheese if using.
  14. For a crunchy topping, sprinkle breadcrumbs over the top.
  15. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly. Check around the 20-minute mark.
  16. Let the dish cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  17. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for added color and flavor.
  18. Serve warm and enjoy!
