Description
Enjoy the sweet and spicy taste of air-fried apple wedges, coated in brown sugar and cinnamon for a delicious snack or dessert. These tender, caramelized wedges are perfect on their own or paired with ice cream, making them a delightful treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium-sized apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon of melted butter (or coconut oil for a dairy-free option)
- 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- Cooking spray or additional oil for the air fryer basket
Instructions
- Wash the apples thoroughly under running water to remove any wax or pesticides, using a vegetable brush if desired.
- Core the apples using an apple corer or a knife, carefully slicing around the core to remove it.
- Slice each apple into wedges, aiming for about 8 wedges per apple, approximately 1/2 inch thick.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and a pinch of salt.
- Add the lemon juice to the bowl to enhance flavor and prevent browning.
- Pour in the melted butter (or coconut oil) to help the sugar and spices adhere to the apple wedges.
- Gently toss the apple wedges in the bowl until evenly coated.
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Spray the basket with cooking spray or lightly brush it with oil to prevent sticking.
- Place the apple wedges in the basket in a single layer. Cook in batches if necessary.
- Cook for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through for even cooking.
- Check for doneness; the wedges should be tender and slightly caramelized. Add an additional 2-3 minutes if you prefer them crispier.
- Carefully remove the cooked apple wedges from the air fryer and place them on a serving platter.
- Optionally, sprinkle with more cinnamon or drizzle with honey before serving.
- Enjoy the apple wedges on their own, or pair them with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a delightful dessert.
- Allow any leftovers to cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes to regain crispiness.
Notes
- For a dairy-free option, use coconut oil instead of butter.
- Adjust the thickness of the apple wedges based on your preference for cooking time and texture.
